It was attended by Syndicate Members, Academic Council Members, Seniors Professors, Doctors and students. The Ceremony was presided over by Governor Sindh and Chancellor DUHS, Dr. IshratUlEbad Khan. Dr. IshratUlEbad Khan speaking on the occasion said thatimproving the healthcare system of the country has been one of the top priorities of the Government and DowUniversity has set an example by starting with only three constituent institutes which produced doctors only, to now having established 55 institutes which cater to all segments of health care like Dental Surgeons, Biomedical Engineers, ICU and operation theatre, technologist, Pharmacologists, Health Care Managers, Physiotherapist just to name a few. He further said that the journey of this University started 10 years ago with a focus of upholding the traditions of constituent institutions and providing a platform where young minds of future generations could be molded to serve the nation in a better way. It is reassuring that Dow University of Health Sciences is inculcating quality medical education and research. Since the inception of this university more than 1200 original research papers have been published by the students and faculty of this University and this surely is an achievement to be proud of. The University has played its role in providing clinical services to the community with the establishment of Laboratory and Radiology facilities. This is the first public sector university which has done so and I hope other universities of similar background will adopt this approach where all necessary investigations are done at an affordable rate. He appreciated the efforts of Vice-Chancellor Professor MasoodHameed Khan, faculty, staff and students have very cohesively worked together in the last decade. Prof. MasoodHameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, DUHS addressing the occasion recounted the progress of the University since its inception and also highlighted 10 years achievements of Dow University since its inception. He informed that the DUHS had three constituent institutions in 2003, which gained the status of varsity but now it had almost 55 such institutions. He also highlighted the steps taken for enhancement of academics which includes establishment of Professional Development Centre from hands-on training Workshops, CME and CPD Program, Internet Digital Library, Online Videoconferencing, Department of Information Technology, Campus Management Software. He also mentioned about various community care projects of DUHS. He informed that Dow University since 2004 to till-date has treated more than 2 lacsdental patients in 3 Dental Hospitals of DUHS. More than 20,000 diabetes patients, more than 3 lacs patients were managed and treated at Liver Institute. More than 1 lac patients facilitated with Rehabilitation Services where 5,000 patients received Artificial Limbs. About 15,000 patients were admitted in Dow Hospital, 15,00,000of Laboratory Tests were performed, 38,623 MRIs and 28,333 CT Scans were performed. Earlier, Prof. Muhammad Umar Farooq, Pro Vice Chancellor, DUHS and Prof. Dr. Junaid Ashraf, Principal Dow Medical College also spoke on the occasion.
