TIA Recognizes International World Standards Day(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 17 -- The Telecommunications Industry Association issued the following news release: The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) this week joins with its fellow standards developers in celebrating International World Standards Day. World Standards Day began as a celebration of the birth of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which held its first meeting in London on October 14, 1946. This year's theme for International World Standards Day is "International Standards Ensure Positive Change." TIA has been developing international standards since its inception and has many standards that have been nationally and internationally adopted and have advanced numerous positive changes in the work and lives of emergency responders, mobile phone users, hearing loss sufferers, cloud users, and others through advancement in ICT industry technologies. As a part of the associated World Standards Week events, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) holds an awards event in Washington, D.C.. TIA congratulates, John Siemon, CTO and Vice-President of The Siemon Company (Watertown, CT) on receiving the prestigious Astin-Polk International Standards Medal, which honors distinguished service in promoting trade and understanding among nations through the advancement, development, or administration of international standardization, measurements, or certification. TIA also congratulates, Peter Musgrove, Principle Member of Technical Staff, AT&T on receiving an ANSI Meritorious Service Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the U.S. voluntary standardization system. "TIA takes this opportunity to recognize and thank the many leaders, volunteers, staff and supporting companies for their passionate and dedicated support to evolve the world into a better place that is constantly improving through positive changes documented through standards development," said TIA President Grant Seiffert. "This annual celebration serves as a critical reminder of the importance of technology, standards, and innovation. The TIA Engineering Committees and the experts that participate invest heavily with their time and resources to develop these new standards, maintain existing standards, or adapt existing standards in order to address these advances in new areas such as machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, wireless broadband, cloud computing, and smart and sustainable ICT solutions. Their efforts are worthy of praise everyday, but we take this opportunity to appreciate their efforts." The development of standards has its rewards for companies active in the process.
