Hospital Galenia selects Cisco's Medical-Grade Network

Oct 09, 2013 (MarketLine via COMTEX) -- Hospital Galenia, a tertiary care hospital, has selected Cisco Medical-Grade Network, or MGN, in its infrastructure in order to offer medical care to its patients through the integration and interoperability of each functional area, optimizing interactions among healthcare participants, medical applications, and hardware components.

The Cisco Medical-Grade Network (MGN) solution is comprised from a suite of products, services and supporting materials for designing a reliable network that has the potential to provide, seamless and highly secure health data exchange and communications for the healthcare community.

With its partner Factor Integracion, Cisco deployed in Hospital Galenia: Switching, Using Cisco Catalyst 4500 and 3750 for the Local Area Network Core distribution and access; Cisco Aironet 1200 to support wireless devices and unified communications applications; Cisco CallManager, Unified Messaging, and Unity Voice Mail; and UCS (Unified Computing System) servers for databases, for applications and for interaction with electronic files.

Through ASA, Cisco Enterprise Networks provides an industry proven architecture for securing protected health information and other patient confidential information in order to comply with Health Information Privacy rules and provide proper access to electronic medical records and hospital information systems.

In strict alignment with the account and engineering teams, the solutions implemented in Hospital Galenia were endorsed by the Center of Innovation of Cisco Mexico, which was established in 2010 to promote Cisco technology and services integrated with Cisco's ecosystem of partners. This has enabled the delivery of tailored solutions to solve business problems, improve business processes and foster innovation in the healthcare arena, to ultimately provide the best quality to patients in the provisioning of care.

Additionally, the Nursecall system from Rauland-Borg has been integrated into the IP network and linked to the Cisco Unified Communications Manager, to optimize the hospital workflow, thus ensuring faster response to patient needs, while reducing strain to the nursing staff. The architecture deployed in Hospital Galenia will allow the hospital in the near future to add applications such as real-time location tracking for patients and assets, telemedicine, and digital signage among others.

Rogelio Velasco, vice president Cisco Mexico, said: "Cisco Medical-Grade Network solutions are helping to enable the transformation of healthcare by increasing efficiency to maximize productivity. For Cisco it is crucial to offer a tailor made reliable and highly secure network with the ability to interconnect third party solutions and that includes the possibility to continue growing according to Hospital Galenia requirements in the future." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
