Reliance Jio plans to roll out 4G services in Assam-Report [Global Data Point]


(Global Data Point Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL) is planning to roll out 4G services in Assam and other Northeast states, according to a Times of India report. Reliance Jio is telecom arm of Mukesh Ambani-controlled led Reliance Industries.



According to the report, the company is planning to invest Rs 600 to Rs 700 Crore in the initial phase.

The newspaper has quoted the Assam chief minister as saying that the roll out of fourth generation services will create 3000 jobs. For this venture 800 mobile towers will be installed in the state and the infrastructure would be ready for use by April 2014, the report says.


Last month Reliance Jio Infocomm had signed a 12,000 crore agreement with Reliance Communications Ltd. for sharing of latter's nationwide telecom towers infrastructure.

Under the terms of the agreement, Reliance Jio Infocomm will utilise upto 45,000 ground and rooftop based towers across RCOM's nationwide network for accelerated roll-out of its state-of-the-art 4G services.

Reliance Industries had also announced that it would invest Rs 1.5 lakh crore in core business of petrochemicals and oil and gas as well as in retail and telecom sectors in the next 3 years.
