AudioCodes Announces WebRTC Phone

(GlobeNewswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LOD, Israel, June 24, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AudioCodes (Nasdaq:AUDC), a leading provider of solutions that enable enterprises and service providers to transition to all-IP voice networks, today announced OPUS support for its 400HD series of IP phones. With this enhancement, AudioCodes can facilitate HD real-time communication between WebRTC services and SIP-based Contact Centers and Unified Communications (UC) solutions. WebRTC is expected to dramatically accelerate the adoption of browser-based real-time voice and video communications. AudioCodes believes that supporting this evolution will become important for business communications.

WebRTC currently supports voice communication using legacy narrowband G.711 or the new wideband OPUS codecs. The resiliency of the OPUS codec to network conditions and its ability to accommodate the available bandwidth in best-effort networks is expected to make it the codec of choice for high quality voice calling. Planned for Q4 of 2013, AudioCodes' native support of OPUS is designed to deliver superior end-to-end voice quality between a WebRTC-enabled end-point and an enterprise phone while removing the need for transcoding.

"WebRTC will drive new ways of communicating between consumers and businesses," commented Yehuda Herscovici, Vice President, Products at AudioCodes. "The ability to preserve voice quality and communicate seamlessly is becoming of paramount importance for enterprises to capture this opportunity. Our OPUS-enabled IP Phone is expected become a key player in this arena." These considerations as well as the opportunities created by WebRTC for Contact Centers and Unified Communications and Collaboration will be discussed by Alan Percy, Senior Director of Strategic Marketing for North America, at the upcoming WebRTC Conference & Expo in Atlanta, 26-27 June 2013.
