Raytheon Releases Post Deployment Build Software

Jun 20, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Raytheon Company has started delivering a new release of software, Post Deployment Build-7 (PDB-7), to its worldwide Patriot customer base.

In a release on June 17, the Company noted details of PDB-7: PDB-7 is the latest in a series of software deployment builds revolutionizing the Patriot Air and Missile Defense System.

The PDB-7 software gives soldiers capabilities by leveraging the latest Patriot Configuration-3 hardware modernization improvements in the radar and battle management command, control, communication, computers, and intelligence (BMC4I) areas. Technical improvements include enhancements that allow soldiers in the field to defend against current threats and adapt and respond to changing threat environments.

"This latest software launch is a testament to Raytheon's commitment to its 12 Patriot partners worldwide to provide a state-of-the-art system to protect their nations and soldiers," said Sanjay Kapoor, VP of Integrated Air and Missile Defense at Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) business. "The enhancements and increases in processing power across key components of the system give soldiers a significant advantage in the battlefield with greater efficiency and safety while substantially decreasing lifecycle costs of the system." Raytheon noted that key enhancements supported by the new PDB-7 software include: The new Modern Man Station (MMS), with color LCD displays, touch screens and soft keys, increases situational awareness and decision-making during tactical operations. The enhanced view gives soldiers in the field the ability to differentiate between threats and non-threats, and see threats sooner and further out. Reacting appropriately will decrease the possibility of confusion and fratricide.

The new Radar Digital Processor (RDP), with a ruggedized commercial off-the-shelf processor, increases the reliability of the digital processing system and related analog components by 10-fold, resulting in a predicted 40 percent increase in overall radar reliability. It also enables future capabilities through software upgrades, including increased target detection and identification, multifunction surveillance and the full support of PAC-3 missile enhancements.

The new Modern Adjunct Processor (MAP) is an expandable processing platform that is at the heart of the Command and Control modernization. MAP increases Patriot's computer processing power by several orders of magnitude while also providing significant expansion capability for the future. MAP integrates technology, such as the MMS, and enables integration of future technologies as they are developed.

Patriot is an air and missile defense system, providing protection against a full range of threats, including aircraft, tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
