BRIEF: Vevo launches on Windows 8

Jun 19, 2013 (Los Angeles Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Vevo, an online streaming service for music videos, has launched on Windows 8, the company said Wednesday.

Users of the Microsoft operating system can access Vevo, which has 75,000 videos, through Vevo's app.

The New York-based company, which provides videos through YouTube, has been expanding viewing options in an effort to increase revenues.

In March, it launched Vevo TV, a 24-hour broadcast-style network available through its website, mobile devices and game consoles. It plans to expand the service to pay-TV later this year, according to Bloomberg.

Vevo last month became available in Poland, following launches in France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

Vevo is bolstering its offerings as people increasingly consume music videos on the Web. About 182 million people watched nearly 41 billion online videos in May in the U.S., an increase of 5% from the previous month, according to data from ComScore Video Metrix.

On Vevo, about 50 million viewers watched 561 million music videos in May, as the online channel tries to become the MTV of its generation.
