WLIT now MY FM with updated playlistJun 17, 2013 (Chicago Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- After 24 years, Chicago adult contemporary music station WLIT-FM has switched off the Lite. The popular Clear Channel-owned station rebranded itself Monday as 93.9 MY FM, dropping its longtime moniker and tweaking its format. Part presentation and part programming, the move slices music from before 1980 off the playlist and adds more contemporary artists to appeal to the evolving tastes of its target audience of 35- to 44-year-old females, according to station executives. "The best way for us to show her the changes was to change the name of the station," said Tommy Austin, vice president of programming for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Chicago. "We did make the music a little brighter, a little more up-tempo, and the reception has been great." The format will blend Pink and Kelly Clarkson with '80s icons such as Duran Duran, according to Austin. The station's annual tradition of playing nothing but holiday music to close out the year will continue under the new banner. WLIT is rated 12th in Chicago with a 2.9 share, according to Arbitron. Those ratings spike during the station's annual holiday music programming, vaulting it to the top of the market.
