Why there is no grand conspiracy against our online freedom

Jun 17, 2013 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- There is no conspiracy to encroach on the privacy of internet users. People are uncomfortable with the notion that, just as they consume data and online services, the internet "consumes" them. Rather than being engaged in conspiracies against people's freedom, corporations rely on customer goodwill to survive. It is ironic that when reporting the surveillance activities of the US National Security Agency, "The Guardian" used analytics to target advertising at its readers.
