[June 17, 2013] Cover-up concerns raised over lack of independent soil tests Tweet Jun 17, 2013 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Asbestos is being removed from Telstra cabling ducts as part of the national broadband network roll-out. It is being claimed that contractor Visionstream, a Leighton Holdings off-shoot, illegally dumped the hazardous material. Soil testing for the affected area in Victoria is now also being carried out by the company itself rather than an independent agency. The Victorian Environment Protection Authority, WorkSafe Victoria and the federal Comcare service are all looking into the matter. A possible cover-up is being alleged by the Communications, Electrical & Plumbing Union.
