CORSICANA, Jun 14, 2013 (Corsicana Daily Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The following University of North Texas students from your area were named to the President's List for the 2013 spring semester. To be named to the President's List, undergraduates must complete at least 12 academic hours with a perfect grade point average of 4.0.

Christy D Medrano Local students named to UNT Dean's List DENTON (UNT), Texas -- The following University of North Texas students from your area were named to the Dean's List for the 2013 spring semester. To be named to the Dean's List, undergraduates must complete at least 12 academic hours with a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9.

McCrory UNT is one of Texas' largest universities, offering 97 bachelor's, 81 master's and 35 doctoral degree programs. Many of these programs are nationally and internationally recognized.


United States Achievement Academy The United States Achievement Academy announced today that Raeleigh Bottoms from Eureka has been recognized by the United States Achievement Academy as an All-American Scholar, and has been awarded a scholarship.

This is a prestigious honor very few students can hope to attain. In fact, the Academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students.

The Academy recognizes students upon the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors, and other qualified sponsors and upon the Standards for Selection set forth by the Academy. The Standards for Selection include academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability and recommendation from a qualified sponsor.

Raeleigh is the daughter of Sherrie Bottoms and Jason Bottoms, both of Eureka. Her grandparents are Don and Edna Jock of Eureka and Lynn and Karen Bottoms of Navarro.

UT Tyler Announces Spring 2013 Dean's List and President's list The University of Texas at Tyler has named 277 students to the Dean's List for the 2013 spring semester, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

To be named to the Dean's List at UT Tyler, a student must have completed at least 12 semester credit hours at the university with a grade point average of 3.75 or above.

Dean's List students from Corsicana are Rebecca Avitia and Rachel Castaneda.

The University of Texas at Tyler has named 349 students to the President's Honor Roll for the 2013 spring semester, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

To be named to the President's Honor Roll at UT Tyler, a student must have completed, in one semester, 12 or more semester credit hours with grades of "A" in all courses that carry grade points.

Aracely Arvizu of Corsicana was named to the President's honor roll, as was Erica Maldonado of Powell.

Jordan receives degree from Texas Tech On Saturday, May 18, 2013, McKenzie Lee Jordan of Corsicana received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Media & Communications at Texas Tech University's 2013 Commencement exercises. McKenzie graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors having an overall GPA of 3.951.

While at Texas Tech, McKenzie majored in Public Relations and received a minor from the Rawls College of Business. Her honors while at Texas Tech include Mortar Board, Honors College Graduate, Top 10 Percent Graduate, and a member of Rho Lambda, Dean's Council, and Alpha Chi Omega.

She is the daughter of Mark and Tracey Jordan of Corsicana and a 2009 Corsicana High School graduate.

In the fall of 2013, McKenzie will begin pursuing a law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law.

Dallas Baptist Univresity Laura Rhea Bennett, a Blooming Grove native, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Dallas Baptist University during spring commencement. While at DBU, she was a member of Alpha Sigma Omega honor society, a member of Alpha Chi National Honor Society, named to the president's list, a Resident Assistant, and Bible study leader. Laura won the Preservice Educator of the Year Award for the state of Texas, the Early Childhood through 6th Grade Generalist Honor Award, and graduated Summa Kum Laude.

Scott Edwin Ackley, a Navarro Mills native, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies with a minor in Business from Dallas Baptist University during spring commencement. While at DBU, he served as a youth pastor at the Dwelling Place Church.

The two were among were among the 651 graduates receiving undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees from DBU.

Of those graduating, 368 received bachelor's degrees, 276 earned master's degrees, and seven earned doctoral degrees.
