Daiwa Institute of Research Builds Global Cloud Practice with Egenera Cloud Management Software

Egenera, a pioneer in physical, virtual and cloud management and automation, today announced that Daiwa Institute of Research (DIR), a global consulting, technology services and research company within the Daiwa Securities Group, has standardized on Egenera management software as the foundation for its cloud reference architecture.

As part of its business transformation services, DIR required a reference architecture that could support client requirements for private clouds that spanned multiple geographically dispersed data centers and heterogeneous technologies. After an exhaustive search, DIR chose Egenera as the cloud management software for its Alliance Cloud reference architecture. The first implementation of this architecture, being built by Fujitsu and KDDI, is part of a strategic initiative for the Central Bank of Myanmar.

The Central Bank of Myanmar has been actively modernizing its financial sector and systems and making preparations to establish a stock exchange. The new Myanmar cloud environment is designed to speed that process and improve efficiency in the bank's operations, in advance of the fast-approaching economic integration o ASEAN nations scheduled for 2015.

With Egenera, DIR was able to meet its aggressive goals, including:

• Fast deployment through a user-friendly and transparent cloud service that provides immediate access to additional IT resources when needed
• Highly secure computing resources that supports multi-tenancy at the system level
• Support of mission critical and performance-intensive applications through PAN Manager's ability to provision both physical and virtual servers
• Failover across data centers and servers from multiple vendors, ensuring the highest level of availability and disaster recovery without requiring idle hardware infrastructure
• Lower total cost of ownership through simplified management and hardware consolidation
• Integration with DIR's partners' infrastructure via a standardized and repeatable reference model
