Jun 10, 2013 (The News & Advance - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Achievements BEDFORD --The following Otter River Elementary School students were named to the All-A Honor Roll for the fourth nine weeks: Noah Ahrens, Alyssa Colling and Josh Hubbard, fourth grade; and Olivia Bell, Aubrey Franklin, Jazmine Knowles, Kyle McGehee, Jacob Reynolds and Jacob Woodford, fifth grade.

PRIVATE SCHOOLS --James River Day School student Emma Eubank recently was awarded the $20,000 Book Award from Chatham Hall, an all-girls school located in Chatham. The $20,000 scholarship is for each year of attendance at Chatham Hall should Eubank apply, be accepted and enroll. This award is given to a rising seventh-grade girl who is in excellent academic standing, demonstrates leadership and character and exhibits a love of learning. Additionally, Eubank will receive the book, "Georgia O'Keeffe: An Eternal Spirit," by Susan Wright. O'Keeffe is one of Chatham Hall's most noteworthy alumnae. --James River Day School student MacKenzie Allen recently was awarded the Science Summer Camp Award from Chatham Hall, an all-girls school located in Chatham. This award, which comes with a $500 scholarship, is given to a rising seventh-grade girl who is in excellent academic standing and exhibits a love of science.

--James River Day School teacher Anne C. Taylor was the 2012-13 recipient of the William M. Walker Family Meritorious Teacher Award.

--The following Central Virginia Governor's School students were winners at the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair held April 6 at Virginia Military Institute: Richard Middaugh, of Brookville High School, second place, Engineering: Electrical and Mechanical and Dental Award, and Blake Nowakowski, of Jefferson Forest High School, second place, Cellular and Molecular Biology.

--The following Central Virginia Governor's School students represented Central Virginia at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair held May 12 to 17 in Phoenix: Brittany Gallahan of Rustburg High School and Richard Middaugh of Brookville High School. Middaugh won the third place Grand Award in Energy and Transportation, a $1,000 prize.
