Croatia's Vipnet acquires two cable operators and telecom operator Metronet Telekomunikacije's assets. [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports]


(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Telekom Austria's unit in Croatia - Vipnet, has acquired local cable operators OKI and KTS as well as infrastructure assets of telecom operator Metronet Telekomunikacije, Vipnet informed on its website.

The transactions led to an increase in the company's fixed network to about 27,000 new households in the capital Zagreb and in the towns of Zapresic, Samobor, Sibenik and Dubrovnik.

Vipnet CEO Mladen Pejkovic said that the aim of the acquisitions is to provide new services and the best price with combining services in different packages.


The revenue of Vipnet dropped 0.5% on the year to EUR 92.1mn in the first quarter of 2013. Vipnet's EBIT, however, rose 22.1% to EUR 12.9mn in Q1. The number of its mobile subscribers dropped 4.4% on the year to 1.88mn at end-March. The mobile broadband customer base increased by 3.9% to 161,400 at end of the first quarter.

Vipnet's mobile market share reached 37.8% at end-March , down 1.2pps year-on-year.
