Launch of Nivis' Smart Object Platform Fuels the Internet of Things Revolution
ATLANTA, GA, Jun 05, 2013 (Marketwired via COMTEX) --
Nivis, a global leader in Smart Grid and Industrial Wireless
networking, today announced the availability of its Smart Object
platform that targets monitoring and control devices that are part of
the emerging Internet of Things. Nivis' Smart Object platform is a
fusion of firmware, hardware and software that allows integrators to
swiftly build products that are seamlessly and transparently part of
the Internet of Things.
The secure platform is entirely standards based and offers 6LoWPAN
and IPv6 connectivity, as well as COAP based web services that reach
all the way to the Smart Object endpoint. The wireless communication
is compliant to the IEEE 802.15.4g standard and operates in the
sub-GHz wireless spectrum, allowing for extended range even in dense
urban environments. It also utilizes IEEE 802.15.4e TSCH compliant
frequency diversity and time division. Combined with path diversity
that is compliant to the IETF RPL routing protocol, the platform
exhibits unsurpassed reliability and robustness to interference. The
highly scalable platform allows for deployment of networks consisting
of thousands of Smart Objects, resulting in minimal infrastructure
The Smart Object communication stack is offered in conjunction with
the VN400 Smart Object module and the VR1000 "Quark" Edge Router. It
is the world's first IEEE 802.15.4g frequency hopping compliant
product line to pass regulatory compliance in the US, Canada, Japan
"The emerging Internet of Things will have a profound impact on our
society as well as on the way we conduct business. Nivis' Smart
Object platform was architected and designed to allow vendors to
rapidly create products that will be part of the Internet of Things,"
said Doug Johns, CEO of Nivis.
By accommodating both line and battery operated Smart Objects the
platform targets a wide gamut of applications ranging from Smart
Metering (electric, water and gas), Smart Lighting and Smart City
related applications to environmental and agricultural monitoring and
A low complexity API allows vendors to map monitoring and control
parameters into COAP web resources or to exchange UDP datagrams.
