Tech Analyst Jeff Kagan on Google Motorola Moto X Smartphone Introduction

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) June 02, 2013 After Google acquired Motorola Mobility, the marketplace has been waiting to see what new products this company would develop. The Moto X will be unveiled in October, and will compete with others smartphone makers like Apple iPhone, according to Bloomberg coverge of the D: Al Things Digital conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calfornia, on May 30.

Wireless analyst Jeff Kagan comments on this story.

Motorola Mobility CEO Dennis Woodside says there is a lot of opportunity for them over the next couple years. They are trying to bring Motorola back to its roots. Flextronics International Ltd. will make the Moto X device.

“This could indeed be a big deal for Motorola if they can fire up the innovation engines once again, and if they can attack this new opportunity with the mind of a smaller and innovative company. They lost that magical spark years ago. Can they get it back again? I hope so.” Says Principal analyst Jeff Kagan.

“The promise to make smartphones inside the USA is actually something new for the wireless industry. Typically phones are made overseas because it costs less. If they can bring jobs back to the USA, Motorola could indeed refresh their brand loyalty. Motorola is a historic American company and brand. I think everyone really wants them to succeed. The basic problem is they have to get out of their own way. That’s been a problem for years. Can they? That is the question.” Says analyst Kagan.

According to the Bloomberg piece, currently Motorola, which uses the Google Android operating system, is ranked at No. 4 among smartphone makers in the US in March, with a market share of 8.5 percent, down from 9.1 percent in December.

“If Motorola can become a winner once again in the smartphone market, that will be a good thing for both Motorola and Google. The industry has many competitors fighting for third place. Motorola is one of many. Will they succeed? That is the question.” Says Technology analyst Kagan.

Google is growing into many different areas of the wireless space. Google Android is their operating system, which is dominant and shows up on many handsets and carriers. The Nexus family of devices is the Google branded handset and tablet. Now this Moto X is another entry into the wireless space under the Motorola brand.
