Miller Electric Mfg. Co. Miller Electric Mfg. Co. has introduced the ProHeat 35 induction heating system, narrow air-cooled induction heating blankets for weld preheating in pipeline applications. Induction heating is used in pipeline applications to help drive out moisture and reduce hydrogen-induced cracking. The induction blankets are wrapped around the pipe and do not themselves heat up, but create eddy currents that generate heat inside the part. The new blankets are 4.25 inches wide by either 160 or 185 inches long, and are designed specifically for 48- and 56-inch-diameter pipes, respectively. Trelleborg Trelleborg has designed Vapor Suppressing Spheres for the storage tank management industry. Applied as a semi-permanent vapor barrier or used as an additive to firefighting foam, the spheres create a barrier between flammable liquids, both polar and non-polar, and the vapor space above, separating fuel from oxygen to prevent fire. Norgren Norgren's new redundant valve manifold (RVM) for controlling critical processes offers a two out of three (2oo3) configuration, meaning that if one of the three pneumatic logic circuits malfunctions there are two logic circuits still operational, so critical redundancy is maintained. The unit is available in aluminum or stainless steel and eliminates the duplicate piping required to install redundant valve systems. Petroleum Extension Service (PETEX) The Petroleum Extension Service (PETEX) at The University of Texas at Austin has released "The Beam Lift Handbook," a field handbook outlining new technologies and best practices for production lift systems. The book uses extensive graphics, detailed diagrams and mathematical equations to illustrate beam lift systems, the most common form of beam pumping system. The book is co-authored by Dr. Paul M. The system then dewaters the main via its drum-top vacuum or a vacuum truck. TDW Offshore Services TDW Offshore Services (TDW) announced completion of two key pipeline interventions in Australia using the SmartPlug® pressure isolation tool. The technology makes it possible to isolate pipeline pressure in a designated section of pipeline for hours or months to secure the environment during construction work or repairs. The first intervention was carried out to protect a live gas infield flow line from falling objects during construction. TDW isolated the pressure in a 30-inch subsea flow line. First, a dual-module isolation tool was launched from the platform, pigged to the set location, and set. The pressure was then bled off from that point back to the platform. For the next six months, the tool remained in the line while construction activities took place. The second pipeline intervention took place on a section of a 40-inch gas export trunkline that extends from an offshore platform to an onshore terminal. The intervention was required to complete a hydro-test on a 40-inch trunk line terminal refurbishment project after multiple valves were replaced. The affected line was isolated with the tool, which was then pigged to the set location using water. Preferred Sands Preferred Sands has launched Preferred RCS, a non-phenolic, resin-coating technology for proppants used in hydraulic fracturing. The proprietary technology, developed with Dow Chemical Co., is positioned as cleaner and more environmentally sensitive compared to traditional phenolic-based resins. RCS Garnet was designed for flowback control in low temperatures with a built-in activator that does not require an additional chemical treatment, and the company said it produces measurably better bond strength while still delivering better conductivity.
