Marvell unveils 10G/40G Alaska X PHY devices for optical and copper cables

May 28, 2013 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Marvell Technology Group Ltd., a producer of storage, communications and consumer semiconductor products, has unveiled new Marvell Alaska X PHY devices optimized for 10G and 40G optical and copper applications.

The 88X2242, 88X2242M, 88X2222 and 88X2222M are designed to deliver comprehensive PHY capabilities, the company said.

According to the company, the 88X2242 and 88X2242M are designed to deliver support for one port of 40G QSFP+ or four ports of 10G SFP+ Ethernet connectivity. The 88X2222 and 88X2222M devices are designed to support two ports of 10G SFP+ connectivity. Primary benefits include ultra-low latency, wire-speed encryption for security and high reliability with port failover mechanisms. In addition, pin-compatibility across all four products provide for system design flexibility.

All of the devices have built-in Electronic Dispersion Compensation (EDC) and deliver connectivity over short reach (SR), long reach (LR), long reach over multi-mode (LRM) fiber, and Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cabling. Signature features include 802.1AE MACSec functionality, built-in redundancy support and flexible host interface options with support for XFI, RXAUI and XAUI, the company added.

Ramesh Sivakolundu, vice president and general manager, Connectivity, Servers, Infrastructure Business Unit (CSIBU) at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc., said: "The latest Alaska X PHY series of devices offers a robust mix of features that enable compelling solutions for enterprise, datacenter and infrastructure applications. High performance, strong security capabilities and reliability features are critical requirements in next-generation networking systems; the newest series of PHY devices underscores Marvell's continued leadership in bringing world-class connectivity solutions to market." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
