BRIEF: Tadamon seal promotion to first division with playoff win

BEIRUT, May 25, 2013 (The Daily Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Tadamon Zouk are through to the top division of the Lebanese Basketball League for the first time since 2000 after beating Antranik in the relegation playoff 2-0 in the best-of-three series, following their win at home 5346 Thursday night.

The playoffs pit the Lebanese top tier's second-from-bottom side against the second-place team in the second division for a spot in the top flight next season.

Tadamon, who were relegated from the top division in 2000, were one of the elite teams in Lebanon during the '90s, and had some historic figures such as Elie Nasr, Patrick Saba, Elie and Michel Sfeir, Mark Kozah, as well as American scorer Tony Madison and others.

The team this season featured a core of veteran players such as Joe Mansour, Charles Bardawil and Alain Boustany under the guidance of head coach Marwan Khalil.

Antranik drop to the second division for the first time in their history.

Homenetmen were the first team to progress automatically to the top flight after being crowned champions of the second division league.
