[May 24, 2013] Davis to serve as acting Anne Arundel police chief Tweet May 24, 2013 (The Capital - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Anne Arundel County Deputy Police Chief Pamela Davis will serve as acting police chief while the county mounts a national search to find former Chief Larry Tolliver's successor. A spokeswoman for County Executive Laura Neuman confirmed Thursday morning Davis will continue to serve as acting chief. Davis has been serving in Tolliver's absence for the past two weeks, as he finished his tenure as the county's top cop while on vacation, spokeswoman Tracie Reynolds said. Tolliver's retirement became official Tuesday. Davis is the first woman to serve as police chief in the agency's history. This is the second time she has been named interim police chief with the department in transition. Former County Executive John R. Leopold named Davis interim chief following the July 2012 retirement of Police Chief James Teare Sr. However, Davis never got a chance to fulfill the role when Leopold appointed Tolliver to the position that same month. Leopold resigned in February after being convicted of misconduct. Tolliver announced his retirement earlier this month after a county personnel office investigation found that he had used insensitive language referring to homosexuals in the workplace and Neuman announced a multi-county task force to investigate potential internal problems in the department. Davis joined the police force in 1993 as a patrol officer in the Eastern District. She has been a K-9 officer and commander of the department's training academy, the Criminal Investigations Division and the Southern and Eastern districts. Davis has a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
