Caballo starts up Carman gas plant

May 23, 2013 (Tulsa World - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Tulsa-based Caballo Energy LLC has opened its new gas Carmen Gas Processing Plant in Alfalfa County, west of Ponca City, the company announced Thursday.

Caballo announced the project in September 2012, a cryogenic natural gas processing plant that is capable of processing 60 million cubic feet of natural gas a day.

The project will help the company connect to the growing natural gas production in the Mississippi Lime and Cana Woodford Shale plays.

"Horizontal drilling has brought a boom to northwestern Oklahoma," said Caballo president and CEO Bob Firth. "There is a great deal of drilling activity focused on the liquids-rich gas found in the Mississippi Lime and Cana Woodford shale formations. We believe the region has significant potential for future growth, particularly to the east and west into Kansas." Caballo did not disclose the cost of the project.

The plant is now operating at about 80 percent capacity and the company is considering a second plant on a 160-acre site in the area. The company said it could finish that proposed second plant as early as June 2014.

The company also has its existing Eagle Chief plant in the area and more than 600 miles of natural gas gathering pipelines in the area.
