Disabled Military and Veterans Will Use Adaptive Technology to Play Golf at Fundraiser for Innovative Veterans' Employment Program

--(Business Wire)--

Paralyzed Veterans of America:

WHAT:

Agility will host the sixth annual Paralyzed Veterans Golf Open, which raises funds for Paralyzed Veterans of America's vocational rehabilitation program-Operation PAVE (Paving Access for Veterans Employment). At this unique event, disabled military will play golf alongside veterans, military officials, corporate sponsors and others supporters of Operation PAVE's mission to help disabled veterans find good careers.

Highlights of this year's Paralyzed Veterans Golf Open include: 1) an adaptable Golf Clinic for veterans with disabilities, led by Anthony Netto, Stand Up and Play Foundation, and PGA golf pro Al Fenstomocher, who specializes in training injured players, 2) a showcase of adaptive golf cart technology that lifts players to a standing position, allowing them to play even if they are paralyzed.

Since its inception in 2008, the annual Paralyzed Veterans Golf Open has raised $1.5 million for Operation PAVE and helped open new vocational rehabilitation centers in San Antonio, TX, Augusta (News - Alert), GA and Tampa, FL. This unique program aims to end high unemployment for veterans with disabilities by providing one-on-one vocational assistance, benefits counseling and support to all veterans and their families, as well as assistance to employers committed to hiring veterans. This year's funds will provide ongoing support of the Tampa program and help open a new Operation PAVE center at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA hospital in Chicago, IL.

Paralyzed Veterans of America was founded by a group of seriously injured American heroes from the "Greatest Generation" of World War II. They created a nonprofit organization to meet the challenges that they faced back in the 1940s-from a medical community not ready to treat them to an inaccessible world. For more than 66 years, Paralyzed Veterans' national office and its 34 chapters across the nation have been making America a better place for all veterans and people with disabilities.
