Lenovo Group reports strong 4th fiscal quarter results

BEIJING, May 23, 2013 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Lenovo Group (00992.HK; LNVGY.PK), China's biggest personal computer (PC) maker, on Thursday announced that its net profits jumped 90 percent year-over-year to 127 million US dollars for the fourth fiscal quarter ended March 31, 2013 due to its rapid PC-plus transformation and effective cost control.

For the 2012/13 fiscal year, Lenovo's net profits grew 34 percent from a year ago to 635 million dollars, higher than analysts' forecast of 618 million dollars.

Yang Yuanqing, Lenovo chairman, said in a statement that Lenovo's smartphone and tablet businesses saw dramatic growth despite a challenging macro-economic environment and ongoing PC industry transformation. The company would focus investment on tablets, smartphones, and enterprise hardware while working to enhance core PC business, Yang added.

According to Lenovo, the company's worldwide smartphone shipments surged 206 percent in the fourth fiscal quarter while its laptop PC shipments increased 0.4 percent. (Edited by Ding Lei, [email protected])
