[May 23, 2013] COPD Foundation Holds COPD8USA Conference Tweet May 23, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- The COPD Foundation will host COPD8USA, a multi-disciplinary, Continuing Medical Education (CME) conference, June 14-15, Hilton Chicago, 720 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, Ill. In a release, the company noted that the event provides crucial clinical and scientific knowledge for primary care physicians, pulmonologists, registered nurses, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, medical directors, care coordinators and anyone involved with the management of individuals with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a cause of death. "COPD8USA is a unique opportunity to interact face-to-face with delegates and speakers in order to share practical information for care management, as well as the latest in clinical and basic research," says John Walsh, president and co-founder of the COPD Foundation. The conference will highlight clinical, scientific and care delivery issues and how changes in the current healthcare and COPD landscape can be implemented to positively impact patient care. It will include plenary sessions, as well as three topical breakout tracks: -The Research track will include novel therapies in development, the latest science behind the complex role that COPD exacerbations play in the pathology of COPD, and the role of genetics in COPD diagnosis and management. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Discovery of the Alpha-1 gene. COPD8USA will celebrate this anniversary and the research track will highlight progress to date on Alpha-1 research, as well as other novel developments that researchers hope will lead to changes in Clinical Care. -The Clinical track will feature inter-professional healthcare providers to interpret the current guidelines, provide case studies and panel discussions to improve competency in managing advanced disease, and address best practices to ensure that patients are receiving the latest in COPD management strategies. -The Care Delivery track is designed to improve patient outcomes by addressing how healthcare should be delivered in the current environment. The interactive sessions will feature government, payer and provider leaders highlighting the changing landscape of healthcare coverage, the roles of inter-professional provider teams, the increased emphasis on patient-centered outcomes and the push to reduce hospital readmissions.
