Hughes Network Systems Unveils New HR4700 Branch Gateway Featuring Fortinet Technology TMCnet Contributor Broadband satellite communications provider Hughes Network Systems (News - Alert) has launched a new gateway that combines high level of security from Fortinet along with WAN optimization and routing capabilities to deliver significant costsavings.
The new HR4700 Branch Gateway incorporates Fortinet's (News - Alert) innovative network security technologies for in-depth protection at each branch location. It comes with capabilities such as firewall, IPS, VPN anti-malware, application and endpoint control, intrusion detection, and data leak protection. Powered by Fortinet's FortiOS secure operating system, the HR4700 Branch Gateway (News - Alert) delivers up to twice the unified threat management (UTM) performance of competing UTMs, according to Hughes Network Systems. It also delivers greater port density, superior price per performance and reduced power consumption.
The gateway incorporates Hughes innovative optimization technologies such as ActiveQoS and ActiveCompression. ActiveQoS enables true end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) while ActiveCompression delivers up to twenty times the available 'virtual bandwidth' for greater throughput and application performance without costly link upgrades.
Offered as a single managed offering, the HR4700 is more cost-effective than multiple purpose-built devices. Customers deploying this technology can also enjoy high application performance over standard broadband networks, instead of expensive T1 or Ethernet access.

The HR4700 Branch Gateway targets the demanding security and application performance needs of multi-branch organizations ranging from retailers, restaurants, retail petroleum and finance, to government agencies.

The HR4700 will be available late second quarter 2013.
Recently Hughes also announced the first Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) machine-to-machine (M2M) terminal to receive Hazardous Locations Accreditation.
