O2 hangs up on call staff ; your money [Ulster Region] [Mirror (UK)]

(Mirror (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) UNION leaders have slammed plans by mobile phone giant O2 to transfer all of its 3,700 remaining call centre staff to an outside firm.

The company has confirmed workers in Bury, Glasgow, Leeds and Preston Brook will move to outsourcing specialist Capita.

O2 said staff would be on the same pay and conditions and that Capita had promised to protect their jobs for at least two years. But the Communication Workers Union claimed the move could lead to redundancies.

Andy Kerr, CWU deputy general secretary, said: "This is a betrayal of the staff who built this company.

Meanwhile, bookie Ladbrokes said up to 100 jobs were at risk under a shake-up of its internet betting arm.
