IMS2013 Awards 11 Doctorate Student SponsorshipsSEATTLE --(Business Wire)-- Eleven doctorate students from nine countries will receive sponsorships to attend the IEEE MTT-S 2013 International Microwave Symposium (IMS) June 2-7, 2013 in Seattle. This is the second year of the initiative, which was established and sponsored by the MTT-S administrative committee. "This sponsorship program will encourage the professional growth of the future leaders of the RF and microwave engineering community," said Alaa Abunjaileh, elected MTT-S ADCOM member. "Many of our members had their first IMS experience as students, and we understand the important role these young professionals play in the future of our industry. We look forward to the high level of quality and innovation they will bring to their participation at the symposium." The sponsorships include five nights' accommodation in Seattle, breakfast, lunch and registration for IMS2013. The awardees will spend one day volunteering with the IMS2013 team and will also participate in either the Graduate Student Challenge or submit an evaluation of one presented paper, one poster paper and a short report about one product from the exhibition. The United States led with three awardees, followed by China and Canada, which are each sending two students. To be eligible for sponsorship, students were required to be first- or second-year doctoral students and IEEE (News - Alert) MTT-S members and were also asked to submit a personal statement addressing why they would benefit from the sponsorship. Student volunteers contribute to the success of IMS2013 and are encouraged to become active in the professional society. Volunteers receive IMS2013 registration, a free workshop for each full day of additional work, food and beverages and the opportunity to attend special events such as the Student Reception and the Student Awards Luncheon. Student Competitions Students at IMS2013 will also have the opportunity t engage in several competitions offered by the Society to encourage future leaders and key technical contributors in their pursuit of careers in RF and microwave engineering, including a paper competition, graduate student challenge and student design competition.
GOLD/Student Reception The IEEE MTT Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) and student committees will also host a special reception for young professionals at the Experience Music Project at the Seattle Center, featuring IMS2013 Chairman Tom Raschko performing live with The Jet City Band.
