Cloud has silver lining for telcos

May 20, 2013 (The Sydney Morning Herald - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The roll-out of cloud computing services by Australian telcos is gathering pace. Telstra, which has allocated $A800m over five years to the strategy, has boosted its client numbers from 16,000 in February to 20,000 in May 2013. ISP iiNet has also had a good response to its service geared toward business customers, and is expanding its facilities. Singtel Optus is entering the segment with its Alphawest off-shoot, while AAPT is active in cloud computing as well but unlike Telstra will not offer application software.
