Inmate charged with murder dies in hospitalMay 20, 2013 (Odessa American - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A man accused of murder and a litany of other charges died Sunday morning after a stint in hospice care. L.C. Davis Jr., 55, was indicted on one count of murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of assault family violence, one count of violation of protective order, one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and two counts of evading arrest. Sheriff Mark Donaldson said Davis was put into hospice care April 18 because he had cancer, and had apparently gotten worse when he was taken on Friday to Medical Center Hospital. Per protocol, according to a news release, the Texas Rangers are investigating the death. Davis was arrested Dec. 26 after being accused of shooting his estranged wife Venesta Davis and her son on Dec. 24 in the 300 block of South Dixie Boulevard. He admitted to stealing a car after the shooting, and he admitted to shooting at Midland police from the car. Davis led Odessa police on a 39-minute chase Dec. 26, including through downtown Odessa. Andrew Thurman, Davis' stepson, was shot in the head and released from the hospital several days later. Davis, 50, was L.C. Davis' estranged wife and was killed in the shooting.
