16,000 BSNL phones affected [Pune] [Times of India]


(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) PUNE: Over 16,000 telephone connections, 7,000 broadband connections and services from five cell phone towers of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have been disrupted because of damage to a BSNL duct caused by municipal works, said a statement issued by the telecom company on Friday.

The statement said that a JCB used by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for nullah works has damaged a 24-pipe duct chamber near Om Supermarket in Model Colony. "The damage has affected services in this area badly. Over 16,000 telephone connections, 7000 broadband connections and five mobile towers are out of order since Thursday. Residents and business organisations are facing inconvenience due to the incident," it said.

The same road work has caused failure of telephone services in Aundh, ARD, NCL, GPP, Yashada, Panchavati and NCAER exchanges areas. The work to restore services would be completed in 48 hours, the statement added.


Pramod Nirbhavane, head of PMC's road department, was not available for comment despite repeated attempts. to contact him on telephone, nor did he respond to a text message seeking the civic body's comments.
