Telecoms regulator eyes EUR 270mn from mobile frequencies auction. [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports](IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Czech Telecommunications Office (CTU) will seek to raise at least CZK 7bn (EUR 270mn) from an auction of new mobile phone frequencies planned for later this year, CTK news agency reported citing CTU's annual report. The regulator cancelled in March the first auction of 800 MHz, 1,800 MHz and 2,600 MHz frequencies saying the received bids exceeded CZK 20bn, which is well above the starting price of CZK 7.4bn, meaning that most likely the costs will be passed on to end-customers through higher charges for Internet services. The companies that applied to participate in the first auction were the country's three mobile companies - Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile CR and the local units of Spanish Telefonica and UK's Vodafone as well as PPF Mobile Services, a unit of Czech investment and financial group PPF. Now CTU has drafted new rules for the auction under which a part of the most lucrative 800MHz band will be allocated for a newcomer. CTU wants to launch the auction in June and complete it by the end of 2013. (c) 2013 Emerging Markets Direct Media Holdings LLC Provided by Syndigate.info an Albawaba.com company |
