Shavlik Rolls Out Shavlik Protect 9.0May 20, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Shavlik, a business unit of LANDesk Software, has announced the release of Shavlik Protect 9.0. According to a release, Shavlik has built a foundation to address IT security trends. The expansion of hybrid cloud models, end-user computing, and the emergence of User-Oriented IT are trends that have forced IT administrators to address security challenges at the heart of virtualization and remote end-user management. The new version of Shavlik Protect provides virtualization patching capability and Agent-to-Cloud technology in the "add water and stir" formats its customers expect. Shavlik said one of the technology features that make up the User-Oriented IT movement is virtualization. Shavlik has been positioned in security surrounding virtualization and the latest version of Protect expands on this front. Version 9.0 allows administrators to take the virtualization infrastructure present on VMware products and enroll it into the Shavlik single pane security console. This integration allows users to see, manage and further patch critical virtual machines as well as patch templates. Further, the associated patching can be carried out on systems that are both online or offline. Offline machines or templates can be patched on isolated networks and returned to a resting state once the patching is complete. This patching capability extends beyond virtual machines to the VMware ESXi Hypervisors. Focusing on User-Oriented IT demands an approach to many types of users including those beyond the firewall. Employees that work from home and traveling employees who rarely return to the office need to work within the governance structure established by their organizations. Shavlik provides customers the ability to govern these users even when there is no direct connectivity. Shavlik's Agent to Cloud functionality allows the Shavlik Agent Mode to "talk" to the Shavlik-hosted Protect Cloud. This connectivity allows end customers to enroll consoles in the cloud where they can report on all endpoints and securely roll out updates to end-users through the cloud. "User-Oriented IT is the new measure of the world we live in today and IT administrators from SMBs to the enterprise are struggling to find ways to meet the associated security challenges," said Robert Juncker, vice president of engineering, Shavlik. "Shavlik Protect 9. 0 allows those charged with security to gain control of network security in minutes while providing their end-users with the flexibility and freedom they have come to expect. Today's keys to success are powerful virtualization patching and securing remote end-users through agent to cloud technology." This latest version of Shavlik Protect continues to provide patch management, IT scripts, power management, and antivirus protection. It also offers a 64-bit edition for performance and scalability.
