Go Digital Yuma seminar coming Wednesday

May 19, 2013 (The Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Attendees at next week's Go Digital Yuma seminar can get their digital marketing questions answered by a diverse bunch of local and regional business leaders -- experts who have their fingers on the pulse of social media, websites, smartphones, video, email and brand marketing, analytics and more.

One of those experts is Robert Nissenbaum, owner of Blue Ridge Wireless Tucson and an early adopter of emerging social media. As the keynote speaker, Nissenbaum will hit on two significant points.

"One would be what digital technology is capable of doing for a business and what it enables them to do, and how using that with social media gives them a level playing field -- effectively, it gives them an opportunity to compete on a larger basis," he said. "Also, I want to illustrate that they need to be in an online, digital realm with their business, that that needs to be a key piece of their marketing ... social media and YouTube and Facebook. And I want to try and illustrate that from the consumer's perspective." The Go Digital Yuma Interactive and Technology Event, presented by Sun Media in partnership with Arizona Western College Small Business Development Center and MGM Internet Services, is hosting the seminar on Wednesday. It's a day-long event of hands-on workshops, roundtable discussions and knowledgeable speakers to help business owners, managers and employees learn how to make interactive technology work for them in day-to-day business operations.

Nissenbaum -- who is also doing a roundtable on e-commerce -- said social media is how many people look for information. He and his girlfriend are two of those people who have ditched the phone book and other traditional marketing methods and who do their logistics on the fly, looking for maps, dining and lodging online when they travel.

Vanessa Blackburn, a business development analyst at the AWC Small Business Development Center, will be teaching business people how to use Facebook and Google Plus, with important tips on branding.

"The goal is for individuals who want a business page and have not set one up, we will actually be having them leave with an actual business page for Google Plus and Facebook," Blackburn said.

Go Digital Yuma will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Schoening Conference Center inside the 3C Building on the AWC campus. Cost is $59 per person for a full day of sessions and lunch.
