BG man indicted in robbery, burglaries

May 18, 2013 (Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- An 18-year-old Bowling Green man was indicted Wednesday by a Warren County grand jury on first-degree robbery, third-degree burglary and other charges.

The charges stem from a Bowling Green Police Department investigation that determined the man and a 17-year-old accomplice were linked to a Feb. 18 robbery of Subway, 2738 Scottsville Road, and were accused of several burglaries this year in Warren County.

Brent T. Henderson, 18, 1500 Bryant Way, Apt. F8, was arrested March 14 after attempting to sell jewelry to a pawnshop on Cave Mill Road. The jewelry was traced to Hardcastle Tag Sale, 2539 Mount Victor Lane, Suite A, which was burglarized between 6:30 p.m. March 13 and 7:45 a.m. March 14, according to a BGPD report.

The juvenile was not initially arrested on the burglary charges. However, he was taken to Warren Regional Juvenile Detention Center after police received an anonymous tip about his alleged involvement in the Feb. 18 armed robbery of Subway.

When an employee arrived at the Hardcastle Tag Sale on March 14 to start his shift, he noticed most of the jewelry was missing. The back door was open and the door's glass was broken, the report said.

Missing items included about $9,000 in jewelry, including various diamond and ruby rings, earrings and bracelets, a Dell laptop computer, a 15-inch Dynex LCD television and $600, according to a police report.

Henderson was indicted on a charge of receiving stolen property valued at $500 or more but less than $10,000.

Henderson also was indicted on a charge of first-degree robbery. According to the indictment, Henderson was armed with a gun.

The Subway was robbed at about 10:15 p.m. Feb. 18 while employees were preparing to leave.

One of two employees went outside to start his vehicle when he was approached by two men -- both wearing ski masks and one carrying a rifle -- who followed him inside.

The men demanded money. One of the robbers was described as a white man about 6 feet tall wearing a brown Carhartt jacket. The other was a black man about 6 feet tall wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, according to the report.

The employees were not injured during the robbery, Ward said.

Police later found evidence linking Henderson and the juvenile to a burglary at Tony Lindsey & Co. Pro Hair, 1033 Shive Lane, that occurred between 4:15 a.m. and 4:40 a.m. March 13, according to police reports.

Employees at Tony Lindsey reported about $1,460 worth of beauty products and tools missing from the salon, including flat irons, hair dryers and Paul Mitchell hair products, among other things, the report said.

Police say the juvenile admitted that he and Henderson burglarized the salon. The juvenile also told police that Henderson sometimes stays at the home of a woman who lives in the 1500 block of Bryant Way, where several of the items reported missing from the salon were found, the report said.

Henderson also was indicted on charges of two counts of third-degree burglary, one of those pertaining to the Tony Lindsey burglary and the other charge stems from being accused of taking a 32-inch flatscreen, three Garmin GPS units, and other items March 13 from Apria Healthcare at 1051 Bryant Way, according to the indictment and police reports.

Henderson's indictment on two counts of receiving stolen property valued at $500 or more but less than $10,000 stems from a March 14 burglary where a man told police two laptops and a digital camera were taken from his 1500 Bryant Way apartment, reports show. The second count on the same charge is linked to the Hardcastle Tag Sale burglary.

His third-degree attempted burglary charge stems from a March 13 incident accusing Henderson of unlawfully entering A+ Coins, at 1051 Bryant Way, the indictment states.

Henderson's other charges include two counts of receiving stolen property under $500 and first-degree robbery, which stems from the Subway robbery.

Henderson is in Warren County Regional Jail in lieu of a $15,000 cash bond and is expected to appear for a pre-trial conference within the next month, said Warren County Commonwealth's Attorney Chris Cohron.

If convicted "on all charges, he's facing a maximum sentence of up to 40 years," Cohron said.
