May 18, 2013 (St. Cloud Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- COLLEGE HONORS Megan Buermann, Richmond, recently earned a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Chelsea Jacobson, Sartell, recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Alexander Coulter, summa cum laude, and Caitlin Dhein, both of St. Cloud, recently graduated from Winona State University.

Christian Labor Association, United Construction Workers, Local #84, a labor union operating from Brainerd, announced the 2013 United Construction Workers, Local #84, $500 Scholarship has been awarded to Kalene Knoblach, daughter of Curt and Rebecca Knoblach. Curt is an employee of Design Electric Inc., St. Cloud. Kalene is attending St. Cloud State University.

Emily Steil, St. Cloud, was a member of a team of students that recently won part of Innovation Challenge '13, the second annual student innovation competition sponsored by North Dakota State University and the NDSU Research and Technology Park. The team won the $5,000 intangible innovations track for its method of determining the ideal pore size for growing cells that will allow a novel dental implant to integrate into a patient's jaw bone.

Hope Wall of Big Lake and Matt Huberty of Rice have been awarded $1,000 George W. Neilson scholarships from Bemidji State University for the 2012-13 academic year.


Several local students recently graduated from Bemidji State University.

They are: Cory Immerman and Libby Kendall, Becker; Eric McAllister, Clear Lake; Cory Crosby, Cold Spring; Tyler Wruck, Foley; David Fabian and Nathan Williams, Sartell; and Rita Dingman and Molly Ruhr -- cum laude, St. Joseph.

The Bemidji School of Nursing recently inducted students into the 2013 cohort of its four-year baccalaureate program at Bemidji State University.

The 2013 nursing program inductees are: Katelyn Athmann -- nursing, and Allysa Hoehn -- nursing and Spanish, Becker; Laura Duscher -- nursing, Little Falls; Haleigh Munson -- nursing, Milaca; and Kelsie Pederson -- nursing, Princeton.

Campus Compact has named 181 student leaders who have demonstrated an investment in finding solutions for challenges facing communities throughout the country as 2013 Newman Civic Fellows.

St. Cloud State University President Earl H. Potter III nominated Njeri Clement, a graduate student in the Social Responsibility master's degree program, as SCSU's representative student leader based on her advocacy and support for social issues locally and globally and her unique creativity and passion for activities that promote awareness and effect change.

Several local students recently were inducted into St. Cloud State University's Beta Gamma Sigma, an international honor society for top business students: Austin Richard Bohlig, son of Bob and June Bohlig of St. Cloud; Beth Brenny of Foley, daughter of Arnold and Bernette Ratzlaff; Brittany Childs, daughter of Mark and Amy Childs of St. Cloud; Christopher Hutton, son of Joseph and Pauline Hutton of St. Cloud; Sarah Stepan, daughter of Mark Stepan and Diane Hughes of Sauk Rapids; Ashley Schafer, daughter of Dale and Cheryl Schafer of Sauk Rapids; and Susan A. Pogatschnik, daughter of Eugene and Norma Meyer of Avon.

Amanda Walz, St. Joseph, received the Thorwald and Josephine Thorson Scholarship at the Waldorf College Honors Day, Forest City, Iowa. The scholarship was established in honor of Thorwald and his wife, Josephine, who gave unselfishly of themselves for the cause of Christian higher education.

Amelia Walz, St. Joseph, received the Bill Smith Scholarship, established by the employees of Smithway Motor Express Inc., in 1994 in Bill's honor.

HIGH SCHOOL HONORS St. John's Preparatory School, Collegeville, announced several local new members of the National Honor Society, Virgil Michel Chapter: Ellen Arnold, sophomore, daughter of John and Margaret Arnold of Kimball; Andrew Bender, sophomore, son of Dan Bender of St. Cloud and Dorothy Soukup-Bender of Sartell; Leela Cofell, junior, daughter of David Cofell of St. Cloud and Monica Cofell of St. Joseph; Gabrielle Kolb, sophomore, daughter of John and Susan Kolb of St. Cloud; Ashley Lench, junior, daughter of David and Renata Lench of St. Cloud; Gabrielle Martone, junior, daughter of Mark and Lisa Martone of St. Joseph; Taylor McFarling, sophomore, daughter of Eric and Lynn McFarling of St. Cloud; Eleanna Melcher, sophomore, daughter of Joseph and Aspa Melcher of St. Cloud; Rachel Odenthal, junior, daughter of Rick and Jane Odenthal of Albany; Clare Pfannenstein, sophomore, daughter of Patrick and Joan Pfannenstein of St. Joseph; Gwen Saliares, junior, daughter of Randy and Jan Saliares of St. Cloud; Nicholas Schaper, sophomore, son of Rand Shaper of Rice and Jacqueline Provo of Sartell; Sarah Schrup, sophomore, daughter of Thomas and Myra Schrup of St. Joseph; and Lydia Tanner, junior, daughter of Arvo Tanner and Xiao Sheng-Tanner of Rice.
