Nate Silver, Data Prediction Expert, Keynotes Day One of Allegiance VoCFusion 2013

LAS VEGAS --(Business Wire)--

Allegiance (News - Alert) VoCFusion 2013 began on day one with an eye-opening keynote address by Nate Silver, founder of fivethirtyeight.com and best-selling author of The Signal and the Noise. Silver spoke to a crowd of customer experience and Voice of Customer professionals on Powerful Prediction Through Data Analytics. VoCFusion 2013 is a three-day event held at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas that brings together experts and practitioners to share experiences on discovering insights in customer data that improve customer retention and increase growth.

In his keynote address, Silver pointed out that 90% of existing data has been created in the past two years, but not all is relevant or useful. He stated that true insights are the ones that give people decision-making power. His suggestions for how to work better with data included weighing new information against what you already know, being aware of cherry-picking data to support biases and learning from your mistakes through trial and error.

Other prominent speakers included Adam Edmunds, founder of Allegiance, Kate Woodcock, VoC expert at VMware, Terry Cain, VP of Global Customer Engagement at Avnet and Cole Nussbaummer, manager of People Analytics Team at Google (News - Alert). Edmunds set the stage for the event by talking about the future of the VoC industry, which is moving away from providing large amounts of data to a few people in an organization to providing smaller and more targeted data to many people. This democratization of data gives people at every level the ability to act on the data to improve their operations and the customer experience.

VoCFusion 2013 is sponsored by Allegiance, Ipsos Loyalty, Ernst & Young, OnePoint Global, Waypoint, CCS, Clarabridge (News - Alert), Strativity, CRMXChange, Quirks, and Survey Magazine.
