Regional Capitals to Enjoy TBC FM Radio Broadcasts

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) THE government remains committed to having television and radio broadcasts under the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) aired countrywide.

The Deputy Minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Mr Amos Makalla, told the National Assembly here yesterday that the government is implementing a programme to instal FM radio equipment in all regional headquarters subject to fund's availability.

He said up to now TBC was being viewed in 18 regions, with 12 regions still not receiving TBC television broadcasts. He said only nine regions - Unguja North, Unguja South, Urban West, Pemba North, Pemba South, Mtwara, Geita, Njombe and Simiyu - were receiving TBC radio broadcasts.

"The government understands the problem with TBC broadcast reception in some parts of the country. The government plan is to ensure that TBC broadcasts reach all Tanzanians wherever they are," said Mr Makalla. He was answering a question by Amina Amour (Special Seats - CUF), who wanted to know government plans to ensure that TBC broadcast countrywide.

Responding to a supplementary question by Peter Msigwa (Iringa Urban - Chadema), who accused the national broadcaster of favouring the ruling CCM in its coverage, Mr Makalla defended TBC, saying it was operating fairly and professionally.
