KAB to celebrate 25 years at banquetATHENS, May 15, 2013 (Athens Daily Review - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- For 25 years, Keep Athens Beautiful has been educating people to keep it's city beautiful. KAB is ready to host it's 25th Anniversary on Friday. The KAB will host an Anniversary banquet at 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 17 at Athens Country Club. In addition to presenting the Hall of Fame and the Margaret Myers Volunteer Award, KAB will be presenting a video history presentation of the past 25 years. According to KAB Director Carol Morton, Keep Athens Beautiful started as a Beautification committee for the city. Bill Caldwell and Ken Davis were instrumental in taking the beautification committee to what is today known as Keep Athens Beautiful. KAB's mission is to preserve the natural beauty and environment of Athens. Part of the history KAB will be sharing at the banquet are past board members, including Richard (Dick) Dwelle. He is a former owner of the Athens Review who was the first KAB president. Some of the other former board members include: Hugh Armstrong, Margaret Myers, Tom Byrne, Preston McAfee, Nell Velvin, Carol Barton, Camille Threadgille, Larry Babb, Darwin Winfield Kandas Babb, Jacy Eckert, Peggy Rhodes, Ken Braswell, Bill Jones and Tere Lawyer. Darwin Winfield, who served on the KAB board twice, will be Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
