[May 15, 2013] Revenue of wireless telecom Globul down 14.6% y/y in Q1 2013 [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports] Tweet (IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Bulgaria's second largest mobile communications provider Globul, which was recently acquired by Norway's Telenor, posted a 14.6% y/y revenue drop to EUR 82.6mn in Q1 2013. The telecom's service revenues decreased by 20.5% y/y in Q1 and its EBITDA income shrank 22% y/y to EUR 26.3mn. The revenue of the previously Greek-owned Globul dropped 8.5% in 2012. The telecom said the disappointing financial result was due to lower retail prices, the mobile termination and roaming rate cuts and the overall decline in domestic demand.   Nevertheless, the company's customers base grew 4.5% to almost 4.6mn over the reported period. Postpaid customers rose by 7% y/y, thus exceeding 2.8 million (63% of all clients). At the same time, its prepaid customers increased by 4.8%.  Norway's Telenor bought Globul from the Greek telecom group OTE for EUR 717mn at end-April. The deal also included the retail operator Germanos, which sells mobile-related products and services.
