PRIUM's Mark Pew Discusses Treatment Intervention Strategies for Longshore Claims at Signal/LCA Maritime Conference

DULUTH, Ga. --(Business Wire)--

Mark Pew, senior vice president of business development for PRIUM, will lead a panel discussion, "Creating More Effective Systems to Manage Employer Cost and Employee Drug Treatment Protocols" at the Signal/LCA Maritime Conference. Moderated by Jean Fernandez, assistant vice president of claims for Signal Administration, Inc., the panel includes Albert Betts, Jr., attorney with Thompson Coe of Austin, Texas and the former Commissioner of Workers Compensation for Texas. The panel will review states' workers' compensation strategies to address the prescription drug over-utilization epidemic, ocusing on the closed formulary implemented by Texas, and present case studies for applying these strategies to Longshore claims.

"Federal workers' compensation regulations currently lean towards less physician interaction and more litigation and mediation by the Department of Labor," Pew (News - Alert) said. "This session will outline some lessons learned from the state systems that should foster discussion around their potential use in Longshore."

A production of the Signal Mutual Indemnity Association, Ltd. and the Longshore Claims Association with assistance from the National Association of Waterfront Employers and the Shipbuilders Council of America, the Signal/LCA Maritime conference will be held May 20 through 22 at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach in southern California.
