[May 13, 2013] Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund: Government of Canada Funds Modernization of Two Community Facilities in the Abitibi RCM Tweet AMOS, QUEBEC, May 13, 2013 (Marketwired via COMTEX) -- The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, today announced that the Corporation de developpement communautaire d'Amos and La Fabrique de la Paroisse Notre-Dame-des-Coteaux have been granted financial assistance for the modernization of two community facilities. "By funding these projects of the Corporation de developpement communautaire d'Amos and La Fabrique de la Paroisse Notre-Dame-des-Coteaux, the Government of Canada is fulfilling its commitment to help improve the quality of life in our communities," said Minister Lebel. The project of the Corporation de developpement communautaire d'Amos consists of refurbishing Centre Goyette Ruel. The work will include renovating several of the building's rooms and repairing the ventilation system, windows and roof. The centre is home to eight community organizations and provides some 50 local groups with access to meeting rooms and equipment at low cost. About 2,000 people benefit from Centre Goyette Ruel's services every year. The project of La Fabrique de la Paroisse Notre-Dame-des-Coteaux involves repairing the roof of the building housing the Municipality of La Morandiere's community hall to help ensure the safety of the facility. "Our government remains focused on four priorities, as outlined by the Prime Minister, that Canadians care most about: their families, the safety of our streets and communities, their pride in being a citizen of this country, and of course, their personal financial security," concluded Minister Lebel. Information: The assistance, granted in the form of two non-repayable financial contributions totalling $340,956, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF). More specifically, the Corporation de developpement communautaire d'Amos will receive $324,706 and La Fabrique de la Paroisse Notre-Dame-des-Coteaux $16,750 toward their projects. The CIIF is aimed at helping non-profit organizations and public and parapublic agencies finance projects to restore, upgrade or expand existing community infrastructure. With a national budget of $150 million over two years, the CIIF is in effect until March 31, 2014.
