Man tries to rape daughter-in-law in son's absence, held [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]


(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Thane: A 53-year-old Railway Police Force constable with Kasara railway police force has been arrested by the Kolshewadi police for allegedly raping his 24-year-old daughter- in-law.

The incident took place on Wednesday night when the victim was alone in her flat. After the incident, she managed to escape and inform her husband who was in Pune. With the help from her neighbour, she filed a complaint at Kolshewadi police station. The victim and the accused were taken to Rukmani Bai Hospital in Kalyan for a medical test. The accused, who was arrested on Thursday, will be produce in Kalyan court on Friday.

Rakesh Sharma is a resident of RPF colony in Kalyan (E). His wife stays in their hometown in Uttar Pradesh, while his son, Hemant Kumar, stays in the same building with his wife.


Hemant works in a marketing firm in Pune, but often visits his Kalyan flat. The victim used to provide food to the accused since he lived alone. On Wednesday night, the victim severed him meal and was in her room with her four-year-old son. The accused entered the room and allegedly tried to rape her.

An official from Kolshewadi police station said, "After the incident the victim, ran to her neighbours home and narrated the entire incident. Her neighbours, Sanjay Vasant Bhadage and his wife Bharti, who in good terms with the victim. The couple told her that she must inform her husband about the incident. With their help, the victim approached the police and registered a complaint against her father-in-law." MD Waghmode, investigation officer, Kolshewadi police station, said: "Soon after the complaint was filed, we arrested the accused from his flat in the railway quarters. The victim and accused were sent to the hospital for medical tests. We are waiting for the reports to confirm if the woman was raped." Meanwhile, the Kolshewadi police have registered a case under section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code.
