(AME Info (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) May 08--SSD SHIPMENTS TO OUTPACE HDDS BY 2017: IHS: Global research firm IHS has said shipments of Solid State Drives (SSDs) are set to increase over the coming years to account for more than one-third of the PC storage solutions market by 2017, Zdnet has reported. The total worldwide shipments of SSDs in PCs is set to rise by a factor of seven by 2017, increasing from 31 million units in 2012 to 227 million units, the report said. At the same time, hard disk drives shipments are seen to drop 14 percent to 410 million by 2017 from the 475 million units shipped in 2012, IHS said. "For SSDs, the major factors driving growth this year will be Ultrabooks and other ultrathin notebook PCs," it said.



EMC PRESENTS NEW DATA PROTECTION 'SURVIVAL KIT': EMC Corporation today announced the EMC Data Protection Suite, intended to simplify the acquisition, implementation and use of its backup and archive offerings. The suite, announced at EMC World 2013 in Las Vegas, provides customers the freedom to purchase based on consumption and deployment models, allowing the migration of their data protection infrastructures to meet evolving backup and recovery, archiving and disaster recovery requirements. "As the world's largest backup provider, we have to innovate to retain our clients' patronage. This comes in the form of not just technology but also the consumption model. ADOBE CHANGES CREATIVE SUITE LICENSING PLAN: Adobe Systems Inc. has introduced changes to the licensing plans of its Creative Suite software line that will see its popular design tools delivered only through an online service, Dow Jones has reported. The company plans to issue future versions of its software through the Adobe Creative Cloud subscription-based service that it launched a year ago. Adobe expects to have four million subscribers by the end of fiscal 2015.


INTEL UNVEILS REVAMPED ATOM PROCESSOR: Intel has unveiled its redesigned Atom microprocessor product line, PC World has reported. The new chip, code-named Silvermont, marks the first time that Intel will use its 22nm manufacturing process and 3D Tri-gate transistor technology to build a system-on-a-chip (SoC) platform for devices ranging from smartphones and tablets to microservers. Intel said that Atom processors based on the new microarchitecture will deliver three times the performance while consuming five times less power. Silvermont will also deliver a number of new instructions aimed at delivering better security and higher performance, including support for 256-bit AES encryption and decryption, the chipmaker said.
