Harris selected by SAVIS to provide tactical area communications system to Brazilian border security programme

May 08, 2013 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- Communication and information technology company Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) announced on Tuesday its selection by SAVIS Tecnologia e Sistemas S/A to provide an end-to-end tactical communications system for SISFRON, which is a large border security programme in Latin America.

Financial details of the selection were not available.

Harris said that it will work with Savis Tecnologia e Sistemas S/A, an Embraer Defesa & Seguranca subsidiary, to provide border security personnel with tactical voice, situational awareness and surveillance capabilities from Harris wideband radios. Savis is the prime contractor on the SISFRON programme.

Harris will supply tactical communications subsystems, accessories, software, services and support for the pilot phase of SISFRON (Sistema Integrado de Monitoramento de Fronteiras), the integrated border monitoring system the Brazilian Army is developing across the western borders of Brazil. This initial phase of SISFRON will reportedly provide surveillance and protection across approximately 650 kilometres of Brazilian border territory.
