Infonetics Research Releases Excerpts from Optical Transceivers ReportMay 06, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts from its 10G/40G/100G Optical Transceivers market size and forecast report, which tracks in granular detail 10-, 40- and 100-Gigabit optical transceivers sold into the optical transport, enterprise, data center, broadband access, and carrier routing and switching markets. "100G optical transceivers arrived in force in 2012, with virtually every vendor fielding a solution. Though the market is nascent and the growth rate will slow, coherent 100G shipments are on track to more than double in 2013 and again in 2014," said Andrew Schmitt, principal analyst for optical at Infonetics Research, in a release. "2012 likely was the peak year for 40G WDM, but QSFP-based enterprise applications are ramping nicely." Highlights: -The global optical transceiver market, including 10G, 40G, and 100G transceivers, grew 10 percent in 2012 from 2011, to $1.63 billion -Shipments of 40G QSFP long- and short-reach modules are forecast by Infonetics to triple in 2013 -Tunable XFP shipments more than doubled in 2012, though at the expense of falling prices -Despite surging in Japan, the overall market for 40G coherent modules is declining as 100G coherent deployments accelerate in China and other regions -Tunable XFPs are the big growth opportunity: Infonetics expects unit shipments to grow at a 36 percent CAGR from 2012 to 2017, driven by the continued strength of the 10G metro market Infonetics' optical transceivers report provides analysis, worldwide market size, and forecasts through 2017 for revenue and units shipped for more than 50 categories of optical transceivers -- by module speed, reach, wavelength, and form factor. Equipment tracked is made by Avago, Delta, Emcore, Finisar, Fujitsu, Furukawa/Fitel, HG Genuine, Hitachi Cable, JDS Uniphase, Melco, NEC, NeoPhotonics, Oclaro, Oplink, Optoway, Reflex Photonics, Source Photonics/MRV, Sumitomo/Excelight, WTD, and Yokogawa. Unit forecasts are based on Infonetics' 1G/10G/40G/100G Networking Ports forecast, which aggregates trends from a wide range of enterprise, data center, optical transport, broadband access and carrier routing and switching equipment.
