[May 02, 2013] Health Fair at BCC coming May 10 Tweet BARSTOW, May 02, 2013 (Desert Dispatch - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Desert Manna will host a Health and Information Resource Fair for homeless and low-income adults on May 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the Barstow Community College Gym. Thirty-seven vendors including Barstow Community Hospital, Loma Linda Veterans Affairs, Goodwill and Victor Valley College's Nursing program will present information regarding health care, job training, transportation and educational programs, according to Desert Manna Executive Director Sheri Randolph. Basic health screenings will also be provided. The city of Barstow is offering free transportation through the Barstow Transit System to the fair at the college, according to Randolph. She said residents would be able to either ride the bus for free or use a reservation system to call a bus. Plans on free transportation would be solidified later this week. The fair is designed to be a one-stop shop of information for low-income adults and families, according to Randolph. She said Barstow Mayor Julie Hackbarth-McIntyre, the City Council and San Bernardino County First District Supervisor and Third District Supervisor were invited to speak about what the county and city are doing to address issues related to low-income adults and the homeless population. A representative of the 1st District Supervisor has been the only confirmed speaker, she said. A free spaghetti dinner meal courtesy of the Holiday Inn Express will also be provided, according to their General Manager JD Covarrubias. Randolph also said 200 packages of chicken will be given away courtesy of the USDA food commodities program.
