[May 01, 2013] Worldwide market share for tablet computers Tweet (Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Research firm IDC says there were 49.2 million tablet computers shipped during the first three months of the year, more than double the 20.3 million a year earlier. Here are IDC's figures for worldwide tablet unit shipments and market share in the first quarter of 2013. _ Apple Inc., 19.5 million units, 39.6 percent share (58.1 percent share a year earlier, 65.3 percent increase) _ Samsung Electronics Co., 8.8 million units, 17.9 percent share (11.3 percent share a year earlier, nearly fourfold increase) _ AsusTek Computer Inc., 2.7 million units, 5.5 percent share (3.1 percent share a year earlier, 4.5 times) _ Amazon.com Inc., 1.8 million units, 3.7 percent share (3.6 percent share a year earlier, 2.5 times) _ Microsoft Corp., 900,000 units, 1.8 percent share.
