BRIEF: Israel's Glide is TechCrunch Disrupt finalist

May 01, 2013 (Globes - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Israeli start-up Glide Talk Ltd. is a finalist in the "TechCrunch" Disrupt New York event, which is now underway. The winner, which will be announced today, will receive a $50,000 prize.

"Globes" recently covered Glide's app, which is a messenger app to record and send brief video clips (up to 42 seconds long), in the same way as sending text messages. It is basically a kind of video walkie-talkie.

Glide's advantage, compared with video chat apps such as Facetime, is that it is possible to send video apps to several people simultaneously, and create permanent files like with Whatsapp. It is also possible to send messages to a person who is offline, and the recipient can view the video message when he or she connects to the app.

Glide's app has been available for iPhones for over a month (click and download). At the TechCrunch Disrupt, the company launched a beta version for Android devices.

Even if Glide does not win the prize, its founders will come home satisfied. The app was the audience pick, which should provide good exposure.

The other six finalists are Enigma.io, Floored, Handle, HealthyOut, SupplyShift, and Zenefits.

Two Israeli start-up have won the TechCrunch Disrupt award: Saluto and Shaker.
