Bud Light rolling out 50-state 'Music First' event

May 01, 2013 (St. Louis Post-Dispatch - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- In the latest move by Anheuser-Busch to link music and beer, the brewer's Bud Light brand has created a summer-long "Music First" promotion that will culminate in 50 concerts on a single day in August in 50 states.

Bud Light partnered with Live Nation Entertainment to create the 50/50/1 concert series to be held nationwide on August 1. Some artists have been announced, including the Flaming Lips, Alex Clare and Sublime with Rome. The artist for the St. Louis concert, to be held at the Pageant, will be announced by June 1st.

A-B created an app for Apple and Android mobile devices that will offer more than a half million prizes, including 50/50/1 concert tickets. Tickets will go on sale May 3, and the concerts also will live-streamed on Myspace's interactive Music First Hub.

Codes found in Bud Light, Bud Light Lime and Bud Light Platinum packages can be entered on the app for prizes.

"Bud Light in the past has always done an incredible job connecting with sports fans, and this is a chance to speak to non-sports fans or sports fans that love music," Rob McCarthy, vice president of Bud Light, told the Post-Dispatch.

Bud Light, the best-selling beer in the U.S., has made some changes to its labels recently to give it a more modernized look, McCarthy said. The new logo shape behind the words Bud Light on 12-pack packages is in the shape of a guitar pick.

"We have a new logo design behind the Bud Light word mark that allows us to do promotions that can connect with the beer," McCarthy said.
