Utah Technology Businesses: Prepare for DisasterSALT LAKE CITY --(Business Wire)-- Utah technology companies need to prepare for seismic changes within their respective industries in order to continue being successful, according to Tom Post of Forbes Magazine. Mr. Post recently delivered this message to attendees at the Utah Technology Council's (UTC) (http://www.utahtech.org/) Annual Members' Meeting. "Look at the huge changes that have taken place in journalism because of technology," said Post. "There has been a dramatic shift in what constitutes news - and how people consume it. Most folks don't get their news from reading a newspaper or watching television at 6 or 6:30 any more. We have to deliver it whenever people want it and on the device of their choice. This change has caused massive layoffs in the industry - and a shift to non-staff outside contributors for some of it." "Who knows what this is " he asked, pointing to his mobile phone. "Yes, it's an iPhone (News - Alert). It's also a grenade with the pin pulled out. And it keeps on exploding." He posed a question to the crowd: "What is going to disrupt your industry in five years " He stressed that companies need to always look for and anticipate the next big thing in their industries, and plan to utilize this foresight to improve their businesses and stay ahead of the competition. "There are now 48 million viewers visiting Forbes.com each month," said Post. "We have been able to o this with the help of our vast contributor base. This model has been revolutionary in the world of publishing. However, we are still faced with the challenges of our changing industry. Like every business, Forbes will need to continue to strive as hard as ever to be the best in order to stay at the forefront."
